Tales of Manhattan (1942) is an episodic venture from director Julien Duvivier. The episodes are linked by a tuxedo that passes from owner to owner. "Tales" assembles an all-star cast with sections featuring Charles Laughton, Edward G. Robinson, Ginger Rogers and Henry Fonda.
Boyer stars in the opening sequence with Rita Hayworth and Thomas Mitchell. He plays a stage star who plans to run away with Rita, gorgeous unfaithful wife of Mitchell. Mitchell has his suspicions about the two, and stages a little meeting where he keeps them in suspense while he ostentatiously cleans his hunting rifle.... The outcome of the confrontation has a nifty twist to it. Stylishly done with intriguing atmosphere and good performances.
