City for Conquest (1941) is a sweeping New York saga, with Cagney as East Side truck driver Danny Kenny who becomes a prizefighter to further his brother's (Arthur Kennedy) musical career.

Ann Sheridan is Cagney's co-star, once again giving an excellent performance as his girlfriend with a yen for some stardom of her own.

Cagney gives a tour-de-force performance, pouring on the pathos, yet keeping it poignant.
