Loretta Young and Colman

Clive of India (1935)

Clive of India tells the story of the "Man of Destiny" determined to secure Britain's power in India. In typical Hollywood fashion it glosses over some of Clive's less attractive attributes, even to providing a happy reunion with wife Margaret (Loretta Young) instead of a suicide.

It remains a rousing action epic however, and Colman was praised for giving the role "vigor and conviction, providing a touching portrait of a man with a consuming passion for power."
