Condemned (1929)

Colman plays Devil's Island convict Michel Oban who is assigned to work in the warden's household. The warden (Dudley Digges) has a lovely young wife (Ann Harding) and the inevitable happens - she and Michel fall in love and plan to escape the Island together.

In stage actress Ann Harding, Colman had a leading lady whose refined speaking voice complemented his perfectly. Critics at the time praised their performances, although commented that Colman seemed "strangely elegant" for a convict.
