The Story of Mankind (1957)
In his final film, Colman appears as The Spirit of Man, rather fitting for a swan song, but unfortunately the film itself is disorganized. Some extremely bizarre casting decisions were made: Harpo Marx as Isaac Newton, Hedy Lamarr as Joan of Arc, and Edward Everett Horton as Sir Walter Raleigh, to name only a few.
As the Spirit of Man however, Colman stands out as the perfect choice to plead before a Heavenly tribunal for the perpetuation of human existance. His opponent is none other than the Devil, played to the hilt by Vincent Price.
The film was a fiasco with critics and public, but despite his surroundings, Colman gives this final screen appearance his customary dignity and eloquence.
