The Masquerader (1933)
In this film, Colman takes on a dual role - not his first (Magic Flute, 1927), nor his last (The Prisoner of Zenda, 1937). The Masquerader has similarities to the latter, in that one of Colman's characters comes to the rescue of the other.
John Loder takes the place of his cousin, Sir John Chilcote - a Member of Parliament whose drug addiction is rendering him incapable of performing his duties. This arrangement loses its temporary status when the politician dies, and John has to make a decision as to whether to continue with the deception or not.
Elissa Landi plays the MP's wife, who finds his 'replacement' much more attractive than her husband ever was.
