RafflesRaffles (1930)

The character of Raffles, created by author E.W. Hornung, had appeared in the persons of John Barrymore (in 1917) and House Peters (in 1925) but spoke for the first time on film with Colman's version. (David Niven also ably took on the character in the 1939 film of the same name.)

Raffles is a respected gentleman and a famous cricket player - he is also a crack thief, known to Scotland Yard only as 'The Amateur Cracksman.' With detectives always one step behind him, Raffles ingeniously eludes them time and again, and always has time for romantic interludes with the Lady Gwen, played by Kay Francis.
