Life
at the wide-open Galveston rodeo camp is dusty and primitive, but Mary does
her best to adapt.
However, Stretch senses Mary's unease and believes it stems from worry over her "family". He suggests she return to Palm Beach alone to settle her obligations to them. Although ashamed of her continued "lady's-maid" deception, Mary fears the worst if Stretch should ever know the truth about her - he has made his scorn of the "idle rich" quite clear. Confused and miserable, Mary agrees to go back home for a few days and then to rendezvous with Stretch at his ranch in Montana. |
