1947's The Farmer's Daughter garnered Loretta
Young a Best Actress Academy Award, and Cotten was there in strong support.
He plays Congressman Glenn Morley, whose household and career are turned upside
down when his mother (Ethel Barrymore) takes on a new Swedish maid, Katrin (Young).
It soon becomes apparent to the Morleys and to their curmudgeonly butler, Clancy
(Charles Bickford) that Katie is a woman of many talents... politics is one
of them -- but on the opposite side of her employers! Daughter
is a very enjoyable film, finely crafted by director H.C. Potter, and the performances
by the four principle players are a treat. more
