An infinitely watchable film, Gaslight co-stars Cotten with Oscar-winner Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer, who gives one of his best performances ever.

Ingrid is Paula Alquist, wooed and won by suave Gregory Anton (Boyer), a calculating gentleman with a disturbing passion for jewelry. Against Paula's wishes the Antons take up residence in the house where her wealthy aunt was murdered several years previously. Little by little, Gregory manipulates Paula into believing she is losing her mind.

Cotten's Detective Brian Cameron, suspicious that there may be a connection with the aunt's unsolved murder, begins to believe that Paula is systematically being driven over the edge for a reason.

is a shining example of MGM expertise at the peak of the studio's power, with lush period decor and dramatic lighting artfully delivered by director George Cukor.
