with Hedy Lamarr The Heavenly Body (1944)  95 min view photo
With: Hedy Lamarr, James Craig, Fay Bainter
Powell does his best in this silly story of an astronomer who almost loses his wife (Lamarr) when she lets her horoscope readings rule her life.

The Hoodlum Saint (1946)  91 min with Williams. Lansbury
With: Esther Williams, Angela Lansbury
Powell's a returning war veteran who can't get a job until he agrees to write for a paper he used to abhor. All he's interested in is making money, regardless of principles, until a couple of his former war-buddies turn him on to a patron saint and Powell learns all about the Golden Rule. An odd one.

Ziegfeld Follies (1946)  110 min
With: many MGM stars - Astaire, Garland, Kelly, Red Skelton, Lucille Ball, Lena Horne, etc.
Powell opens the show as Florenz Ziegfeld up in Heaven, planning what kind of extravaganza he could present with the stars of the day. Many musical and comedy sketches.

Life with Father (1947) 118 mins with Irene Dunne
With: Irene Dunne, Elizabeth Taylor, Jimmy Lydon   view photo 1 ~ photo 2
Powell's performance as the irascible and domineering patriarch of the large Day family is one of his very best. Irene Dunne lends fine support as his understanding wife.

with Ann Blyth Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid (1948)  89 min
With: Ann Blyth, Irene Hervey
Mildly entertaining yarn with Powell as a respectable businessman on vacation who's "adopted" by a very affectionate mermaid (Blyth.) Better than it sounds.

Take One False Step (1949)  94 min with Shelley Winters
With: Shelley Winters, Marsha Hunt
Powell's a college professor who has to turn amateur sleuth when he gets mixed up with a former flame who won't take no for an answer (Winters), and finds himself involved in a murder.
