The
Hoodlum Saint (1946) 91 min
With: Esther Williams, Angela
Lansbury
Powell's a returning war
veteran who can't get a job until he agrees to write for a paper he used to
abhor. All he's interested in is making money, regardless of principles, until
a couple of his former war-buddies turn him on to a patron saint and Powell
learns all about the Golden Rule. An odd one.

Powell's performance as
the irascible and domineering patriarch of the large Day family is one of his
very best. Irene Dunne lends fine support as his understanding wife.
Mr.
Peabody and the Mermaid (1948) 89 min
With: Ann Blyth, Irene Hervey
Mildly entertaining yarn
with Powell as a respectable businessman on vacation who's "adopted"
by a very affectionate mermaid (Blyth.) Better than it sounds.

Hunt

who has to turn amateur sleuth when he gets mixed up with a former flame who
won't take no for an answer (Winters), and finds himself involved in a murder.
