
Tyrone Power
was at the height of his career when he enlisted as a private
in the US Marine Corps in August 1942. He earned his wings and flew planes
in the Pacific,
based in Okinawa and Guam, and ferried supplies to the servicemen fighting
on Iwo Jima.
He was discharged as a first lieutenant in January 1946.
Other uniformed actors who saw real action in the war included
Clark Gable, Henry Fonda, and James Stewart.
