Love played serious leading ladies in silents but scored her biggest success
and earned an Oscar nomination as a singer and hoofer in the early talkie
classic, "The Broadway Melody," 1929. She became a playwright and returned
to the movies as Vanessa Redgrave's mother in "The Loves of Isadora," 1969.
