What a great site. Did you know the actor Steve Forrest is Dana Andrews brother. I loved the part Dana played in my favorite movie "The Best Years of Our Lives". He did a superb job as Fred. I think I seen this movies 20 times! I also like Dana in another favorite movie of mine "In Harms Way" I try to collect items on all my favorites and I am proud to say I have 2 signatures of Dana. He appeared with Gene Tireney in 5 films. Laura is a favorite of mine too and Gene was a real beauty! Thanks for such a great site devoted to a very under appreciated & overlooked actor. Just wonderful :)

Stephen (11/07)-- -----I don't know why I know this, however-- by the time the war department was calling, approx. 30 yr old, men with 2 small children, the war was ending. ----And as a guess, I would add, since his son had already lost one parent, maybe he had some hesitance about leaving, him, himself?

I liked his work in the Oxbow Incident. The Best Years of Our Lives was good too. However, in other movies I've seen him in it always appears that he's TRYING to act. It's hard to put into words but it appeared that he was tense and not sure of his abilities as an actor. My question is - why didn't he serve in WW2? He was the correct age etc. Anyone have an answer. Thanks

Hi. Believe that he tried to serve in WWII but kept getting put off because of his rather large family. The service took single men first. |

Dana is my favorite actor for the era of the films of the 1940's and 1950's. A great site and long overdue for a wonderful actor who overcame some personal demons with strength and dignity

I have watched several of Dana Andrew's movies more that once over the years. I am 53 and, as a teen, our local tv station showed old movies in the afternoons after school and at night on the weekends. "The Best Years of Our Lives" is a masterpiece and Mr. Andrews had a lot to do with it. I loved "State Fair' and "Laura" as well. I am sorry he wasn't given his due in Hollywood. I am also proud of the work he did to help alcoholics like himself. His family should be very proud of all his accomplishments. He seemed to have been a good family man and loving husband as well.
