He thought of becoming a rabbi (and a lawyer) but deferred to performing. Of the pulpit he decided that he could not be so sacrosanct 24 hours a day.

I am a long time admirer of Edward G Robinson and his many great film performances. A finer actor has never lived. Any film with EGR is worth viewing if only for his work in them. Two lesser known films I would strongly recommend to see: Five Star Final and Two Seconds, both from the early 30's. Incredible performances by "Eddie" with great final scenes that rank with the best in film history.

Mr. Mizrahi, you are so right. If for no other scene in the film, that monlogue is Oscar material! Fans should read -- or reread -- ALL MY YESTERDAYS to discern how dynamic performances evolved from the heart and humanity of Edward G. Robinson (great acting ability notwithstanding). Ms. Sanchez, I wrote last month, but my letter came back.?

Double Indemnity: without question, his monologue to Mr Norton on the issue of suicide is one of the supreme moments of any film! Reciting the fact there are 10 volumes on suicide, subdivided and again subdivided is remarkable-for the writing and delivery; then to take the glass of water from Mr Norton and drink it with some drops falling on his chest and continuing without a miss is in my opinion the highlight of this film. I have kept a copy of the lines and the recording of it. The man was great.
