Re Philip Reihl's inquiry about the plot of a film with plants watered with blood: very sorry, but I'd bet it hasn't anything to do with Edward G. Robinson; so I'm stumped. As you pointed out in an earlier message, Francesca, EGR's only science fiction film was SOYLENT GREEN, his final one (unless one counts NIGHT HAS A THOUSAND EYES (1948) and FLESH AND FANTASY (1943), but of course, they're more occult-themed. All the best! --Bob

Hello! I have a large autographed photo of Gladys Robinson from the 1930's with an inscription to Janet & Pechie, do you happen to know who they are? I am a great fan of your grandfather. Thank You.

Response:
Dear Philip,
I have heard of the benefits of blood donations but...really!!! Maybe our resident expert Bob Beck can elaborate..I have not heard of this plot. (Pardon the pun)

Re Michael Sorbera's inquiry about the silent films of EGR, ARMS AND THE WOMAN is lost; only a still survives, and without it, showing EGR as a bit player, the film wouldn't be known as one of his. THE BRIGHT SHAWL survives; it played at the Lillian and Dorothy Gish (annual) Film Festival in Massilon, Ohio, (the Gish birthplace) in 2003. An excellent print and fine film! (Dorothy Gish was one of the female leads.)

Hello Francesca, I am a very huge fan of your Grandfather. I admire him as an actor and after reading "all my yesterdays" very much admire him as the wonderful man he seemed to be. His words spoke to me in so many ways. I have made it a lifelong quest to see every film he was ever in, I am about 65% there, My question is are the silent films that he was in "arms and the woman" "the Bright Shawl" still in existance or are they destroyed? PS. From the way he talks about you in that book you surely must have been so loved by him. Thanks, Michael

Response:
Dear Michael,
Please see Robert Beck's (author of The Edward G. Robinson Encyclopedia) above answer to your question. And, yes, so true...and it was mutual.
Kind Regards,
Francesca |
