Ms.Sanchez after reading 'all my yesterdays' I found out that your granfather was not pleased with Scarlet Street, says he phoned it in. i have to say it its one of my favorite pictures he has done.also will the book be re-released? had a hard time finding one.

Response:
Dear Marc,
In all honesty, my grandfather never "phoned in" a performance. He was the consummate professional and valued his craft greatly. As for the book, we are working on re-releasing it. You might want to go Amazon.com, Alibris or that kind of book site.

Hi Francesca!!! This is a great site and what a wonderful tribute to such a wonderful man. I remember your grandfather at our father-daughter dances. What a gentle man.

Hi Diana,
I am so sorry for my belated answers. I too, remember those wonderful days in high school. I have often thought of you and wondered how you were doing. Memories of your sweetness and fantastic sense of humour! And yes, he was truly a gentle man...missed greatly!
I will be in touch shortly. It will be fun to catch up.
Fondly,

Dear Ms.Robinson, I am very impressed with this site, and really enjoy reading the comments and answers concerning your grandfather. My mother is 75 and told me she also saw a movie in the early 1970's,similar to Pat Kane's question. She was talking about this movie right before I read Pat's question, so I anxiously awaited the answer. She doesn't recall many details, but said she thought the movie had a lot of the Christmas season in it. She thinks it was actually made in the 70's. She said EGR was looking through a window, but doesn't remember at what part of the movie this was. I've tried to figure out which one it could be by reading comments from viewers, but without actually seeing each movie I just can't figure it out. Could it be a movie that was only shown the one time in the 70's? I had hoped to purchase it for my mom for Christmas. Thanks much, Deborah Knauff

Response:
(Webmistress, here): This movie is sounding like a combination of "Sullivan's Travels" and "Stella Dallas"! (just kidding). Seriously, if you go to the Internet Movie Database you can look up EGR and read through the details/synopses of all of his films, and perhaps something will ring a bell. |

Dear Francesca, Thank you very much for taking the time to answer genealogy questions. Your reply relating to your great-grandmother and great uncles confirms that your grandfather was not a first cousin of my husband's family. However, he was probably more distant cousin as the families in New York and London were sure that he was a cousin.

Response:
Dear Sue, I am heartened that so many people have a deep and passionate longing to discover their familial roots.
I am glad to help wherever I can.
Warm Regards,
Francesca |

Re Pat Kane's question about the film about a character looking in the window of his home at Christmas: The film's plotline is evocative of THE LAST GANGSTER, wherein he goes inside the house at the end and talks with his former wife and her new husband (James Stewart) before he's bumped off by a rival gangster. But I don't believe it's the right film. It's obviously not THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW (or 'the lady'), either, whose story doesn't match. Sorry.
