The more I read about him it became clear he was a very cultured and articulate man with a love of art and literature. Someone I would have really valued the opportunity to meet. As a bonus he was also a real STAR - in the real sennse of the word. The New York Times opined "Easily the most enjoyable hour in the series is provided by Edward G. Robinson-the one-time Little Caesar-as Petruchio, who's come to wive it wealthily in Padua in 'The Taming Of The Shrew'...He is aggressive, virile, boisterous and funny." He roars but never hams, he sings a bit, he kisses big juicy kisses, he has the studio audiences laughing out loud." Francesca Howard Rozen | @ | url My maternal grandmother was D'vora GOLDENBERG-Schoilovitz who emigrated to Montreal with her husband David early 1914 from Bucharest, Rumania. She was killed in an accident Jan 29/29 age 52 years. I believe she is either the sister of Emmanuel Goldenberg, or his first cousin. D'vora's parents were Stephan Goldenberg & Esther Zader. Robinson and his films for years. I remember watching him in the Cincinatti Kid - That made me want to be 'the man' as a worldclass poker player! I remember watching A BOY TEN FEET TALL, also, which made me wish that I could go on Safari with your wonderful grandfather. He was the kind of man that I always wished I had for a father/grandfather. And when I watch SOYLENT GREEN, well who can keep from tears when he dies in the movie knowing he died 2 weeks after the film was finished. He was such a great actor, definately one-of-a-kind! The world is lesser for his loss but at least he have a lifetime of his movies to remember him by, and we have you to tell us memories we are yet to have. Can I ask - in what film did your grandfather seem most 'just like himself'? Also, did he die peacefully? He was such a gentleman in life he deserved a peaceful passing. ROBINSON! 22 August 2005 - Topeka, KS, USA Response:   Dear Kevin, Eddie has said many times that the Cincinnati Kid character -Lancey Howard, most resembled him off-screen. Also, the character of Doctor Ehrlich in Doctor Erlich's Magic Bullet. (His favorite 'early period' film due to it's humanistic and intellectual outlook) He passed as peacefully as one could expect of someone who suffered through the trauma of cancer. By the way, Kevin, The Boy Ten Feet Tall was also one of my favorite films. Upon returning home from Africa, Eddie regaled me with wonderful stories.. Your comments reveal a sensitive insight and are greatly appreciated. Letters like yours are the reason I enjoy sharing memories of my grandfather...
