Hi Bob
All those EGR movies you mentioned interest me! :)
I remember seeing "Brother Orchid" awhile ago. I enjoyed that! I am 51 years young and I can remember watching the old B&W movies on the late show or in the early mornings when we had about 7 channels to chose from on the tube!
Thank goodness for Turner Classic Movies! It has shown me many, many wonderful little known films. I have been a diehard movie fan for about 25 years. I could talk about the old movies and the Hollywood stars of yester-year all day long! They sure don't make them like they use too. The caliber of stars and films with a great plot were the best and they did not need the inappropriate, gory and violent scenes that are ever so present in today’s movies.

Hi, Karen. Thanks for your message. I've been watching Edward G. for over 50 years, so, yes, I guess you could say I'm "hooked." But more than a brilliant actor, he was a humanitarian and a kind and gentle soul -- which belied that fierce gangster image. What a marvelous contradiction between art and life. His granddaughter Francesca is also a wonderful, delightful person. In no particular order, films of his you MUST see if you haven't (my favorites) are BLACKMAIL (1939), SEVEN THIEVES (1960), DR. EHRLICH'S MAGIC BULLET (1940), DOUBLE INDEMNITY (1944), A HOLE IN THE HEAD (1959, and WOMAN IN THE WINDOW (also 1944). Which ones appeal to you?

To Markosat Achar: Taking the liberty of responding to your message, the film is called TALES OF MANHATTAN, 1942, and Robinson plays an attorney who's down on his luck -- a bowery bum, until he gets an invitation to his college reunion, can't afford a tux, and has to wear a plain shirt under a tailcoat. With a missing wallet, everyone is searched, and it is revealed he's in poor attire. Very moving episode (one of 5) all linked to the tailcoat. Other episodes star Charles Boyer and Rita Hayworth, Ginger Rogers and Henry Fonda, Charles Laughton, and Ethel Waters, Rochester, and Paul Robeson. Robinson was cited (among several others) for his acting by the National Board of Review.
