Putting on the Ritz. I t was amazing. He always danced with such finesse, like it was nothing to him. If you can call it dancing.gliding to music is more descriptive. If anything else.he seemed to be one with the music that he danced to; as if he were the music. Linda Hunt | @ To answer a previous post, yes it is true that Fred Astaire's parents were Jewish. That information is from a Biography. Fred Astaire was the consumate showman and entertainer. One of the brightest stars in the sky. He is sorely missed. He has been a huge part of my life. Strangely, I read recently that his father, who was of Jewish background (is this true?) was born in Linz, Austria. My own father, of Jewish background, was also born in Linz. And I read that Fred lived in New Jersey. That's also where my dad settled and where our family originated. We just love Fred and could watch his dancing, singing, and romance scenes over and over again. Long live Mr. A. :) 19 September 2010 - virginia Richard Glyndwr Evans | @ I grew up in the 50's onwards watching most if not all of Fred Astaire's films, especially when he danced with the Magnificent Ginger Rogers. To me he was everything a dancer could and should be. Even now in 2010 I still avidly watch his films and marvel at his mastery, which none have been able to come anywhere near too today let alone equal.
