Fred was born the same year as my father - both have always been a model for me to fashion myself on. There will never be another Fred Astaire - the people now dancing do not have the commitment that Fred had. I think that anyone aspiring to become a movie star should have to watch some of his movies so they can see for themselves what commitment is.

I would just like to say to the family of Fred Astaire, that I have enjoyed most of my life watching and being entertained by Fred Astaire, I shall never forget his contribution to film, song and dance. Theres only a few who has been so dedicated to their craft and talent. I pray that millions have been as happy as I am to see him on tv from time to time.

I have now seen Story of Vernon and Irene Castle 4 times.within a couple of months of each other. And it seems no matter how many times I watch it, I burst into tears of sadness at the end. IT'S SO INCREDIBLY SAD!!! Sad for Irene and sad for Vernon.

Thirty five years ago when my father got his first VHS recorder - I started recording Fred Astaire movies off of the TV. Having never seen his films in the theater - I first fell in love with him during high school and over the years have enjoyed seeing them on the big screen in the Saratoga Vitaphone and the Stanford Theaters and now on my big screen TV. Now with the internet you can find other people to share your enjoyment with. This website is the best and my favorite of all of the salutes.

WATCHING THE TEN FILMS HE MADE WITH GINGER AMAZE ME. THEY DANCED WITH EASE AND AS ONE. NO STIFFNESS AS THE DANCERS HAVE TODAY ON TV SHOWS. TO BAD THEY DIDN'T DO MORE MOVIES TOGETHER. ASTAIRE WAS A CLASS ACT--NEVER WILL HE BE MATCHED.
