Karen, I just saw something on TV that records are making a come back. I have all my old records in a box in the garage, which must be moldy and unplayable, but I don't have the heart to throw them away! Rocky, you are right, I don't like Between 2 Worlds. I found it dreary and slow. I'm not a big fan of Tortilla Flat either. I love Garfield in Body and Soul, Fallen Sparrow, Postman, Pride, Breaking Point, Force of Evil, Nobody Lives Forever and Humoresque! Of course, his early films were a lot of fun too! Karen suggested we all get together and write a book, and she'll supply the pictures. Sounds like a good idea, we could spread the word about Garfield!! Thanks again for the pictures, Karen!

Being everyone is a John Garfield enthusiast here, I think we should all see one of his films in a movie theater one day.. Film Forum in NYC shows a whole bunch of old films every month. Next time they show a Garfield film, I will post it here and maybe those who want to, can make the trip to see it. I know Barbara, Rocky and Lou are close to the city and Karen is not too far way. Dennis might have a long trip... It may be well worth it to see a JG film on the big screen. Has anyone seen a JG film in a movie house recently?

I looked at a picture that I have and I tried to see with a magnifing glass what brand of cigs were on the table. Could not tell.... Maybe Chesterfields. Jg was known to smoke a pipe too! What a great comment, Kay! Originally, I think Lana was disappointed in JG being cast in Postman, according to the documentary made on her life shown on Turner in 2003. She didn't think he was so good looking, but once she began working with him her daughter stated they became very close, and she remembers him at her birthday parties. In Nott's book he stated they had a brief fling, but it didn't go anywhere! As to what JG smoked, I was asking the question more for myself, I didn't know the answer, I assumed it was Lucky Strike. I heard Jack Klugman's remark about smoking and imitating JG's style. I also once read that Whoopie Goldberg's favorite actor was JG!

Been enjoying the comments. While wandering the Internet a while back came across an interview with Lana Turner done possibly in the 80's. This is the JG section. Question: Did you enjoy working with John Garfield. LT: "Oh yes and i know i'm not the first one to say what I'm going to say. But truely John Garfield was so above any actor including all your greats because he was of a new medium that women weren't accustomed to. And the fact i was fortunate enough to do this film with him because the chemistry was just there and if you'd do a scene and boy he'd bang it back to you and you'd bang it back to him. You know it became something not to just say your lines say your lines. In "Postman" bathing suits were the closest thing to nudity and yet our picture had so much coming from the screen just by innuendo and looks. He was really, really vibrant and so gentle and terribly intelligent. I wish we had him back."
