Lu,
I think you are this site’s most devoted fan (or certainly one of them!)

Thanks for the kind words in one of your last postings.

You can find the movies cited in the Wall Street Journal article at www.warnerarchive.com .

Unfortunately, they are not offered as a box set, but rather individually (as least as of today). The only Garfield box set offered there is that of all of the “Four Daughters” movies.

On a related topic, for all the fans of this site, TCM has an iPad app that not only allows you to watch whole movies (live and for a few days after they are broadcast live) but also movie clips that you can find by simply searching on the actor/actress you would like to see.

My personal favorite is from “Hollywood Canteen”, where John Garfield and Bette Davis introduce Slim Green (Robert Hutton) to Joan Leslie.

I don't recall it mentioning where you can buy it, does anybody know.

By the way, I can't believe it has been a whole year since we met at the Warwick Hotel. Where does the time go!!!!!

By the way, as you stated and was also stated on the website that it was from an article that appeared in the Wall Street Journal, my father worked for that paper many years ago.

The website tells the movies that are in the boxset and explains what they are about. I am very interested in buying it although I have all of them on VHS and since now everything is digital courtesy of the computer, I can't play them now.

Karen, it is great to see you posting again. I am very glad to see you back. I was afraid I wouldn't see your postings again. I am glad I was wrong. I thought most of you went over to Facebook where John Garfield has a section but you have to sign in and I don't care to. I would rather stick to this website.

Thank you Dr. John Fox and Karen for that information. I did what you suggested and went on that website, very interesting.

I cannot believe I am having the same problem that I had last night, every time I select this number, it say "Incorrect Selection". Let me try AGAIN.

Hi, it's me again, Lu. This is what I wrote last night but had DIFFICULTY posting it.

Lu
I just typed a large posting and I went back to correct something and then I had trouble again. "Incorrect Selection" so I will try to remember what I posted and try again tomorrow.

By the way, how do I buy the boxed set.

Thanks to those who provided information on The Wall Street Journal article. As has already been mentioned, it’s really great to see John Garfield get the attention he deserves.

The only quibble I have with the article is that the list of Garfield’s great post WW II movies really begins with “Pride Of The Marines” and not with “The Postman Always Rings Twice”. Not only was “Pride” a huge hit for Warner Brothers in 1945, but Garfield should have gotten an Academy Award Nomination as Best Actor for his portrayal of Al Schmid.

Thanks Natalie. TCM aired John Garfield's last movie last night...He Ran All The Way...wonderful Garfield performance. Robert Osbourne before the movie and after went into detail about John Garfield expecially the HUAC period and the last few years of his life. Trying to catch something on TCM when they show a John Garfield movie!!

I know everybody is busy but it is so sad that it seems nobody goes on this website anymore.

It seems that days and weeks go by without any new messages.

Again it is sad.

It is either this webiste or my computer but again I seem to be having a problem putting a message here.

Yesterday, on TCM, they were showing a great deal of Cary Grant movies, and I was wondering if they would possibly show Destination: Tokyo. Well, they did, unfortunately it was on at 1:30 in the morning.

Why when John Garfield is in one of some big star's movies that they show a whole lot of, does the movie that he is in always seems to get put on the "wee" hours of the morning.

I DO have all his movies in my garage on VHS tapes, unfornately they don't play with the equipment that they are putting out now. And we have an old VCR that still works but it is too time consuming to program it and unfortunately my cable system doesn't have classic movies on their "On Demand" system.

Hi, Dennis and Barbara (Babs). I totally agree with you. In ShopRite in the magazine section, they have magazines on different celebrities including Humphrey Bogard, Frank Sinatra, and the Beatles but as usual nothing on John Garfield. WHAT A SHAME!!!!!

I fear he will never be recognized, again WHAT A SHAME!!!!

Barbara, about his son. There was an article in "old fashioned" movie magazine titled "The Son Also Rises". This was maybe in the late 60's when he was trying to make it in the movies. I have that magazine in my garage someplace since I saved everything relating to our Beloved Star.

You read he died of a drug overdose, how sad. I read something else but I won't repeat it.

Anyway, as I mentioned some time ago, knowing that this website is devoted to him and the wonderful people that post on it give me solace for how he is treated today.

Do you, Dennis or Babs every hear from Karen. I haven't seen her posting here in months, just wondering.

Hi Babs...you are absolutely correct...John Garfiled was a one of a kind actor...a great scren presence!!...and he is not totally appreciated what so ever. We on this site hav been saying this for years...some director needs to step up to the plate and make a movie on his life. His life isa true Hollywood story from rags to rich's. He is and always will be my favorite actor...no compares to the great John Garfield!!!
