I see that Kino Video is releasing "HER NIGHT OF ROMANCE" (1924), "HER SISTER FROM PARIS" (1925) and "KIKI" (1926). Hopefully this will spur the release of even more Colman silent films on DVD!

The first time I saw Ronald Colman was in ninth grade when our teacher showed a Tale of Two Cities in literature class. I recognized the voice immediately because Don Adams did a great impersonation of him on Get Smart (an homage, not a satire). I fell madly in love. Back before there was cable, they would show old movies very late at night. I would set my alarm to wake me up at 3:00 am just to catch one of his movies. Needless to say, I was very happy when we got a VCR. My, how times have changed :o)

Terrific site! A great effort to help acquaint a world of new generations with Ronald Colman, who should be better known and fondly remembered overall. Why is this? Even Turner Classic Movies, with its month-long hommage to "Oscar" hasn't scheduled a single eligible Colman film for prime time viewing. Oh, there was TALK OF THE TOWN and KISMET shown on the afternoon of February 9th--HIS BIRTHDAY--but that coincidence was more by accident than by design. So his films go unsung for another year. Rarely do they show BULLDOG DRUMMOND or CONDEMNED, and TCM is more apt to show the Dirk Bogarde version of A Tale of Two Cities than the Colman one. I don't know why he isn't shown as much 'courtesy' on his birthday--or at Oscar time--than the other stars and films of his day. What ever happened to the GOLDWYN silent films starring Colman? TCM could show them on SILENT SUNDAYS, but not a one has been aired.

I've just come back home from seeing Ronald Colman in tale of two cities at a special cinema screening here in Melbourne Australia. It was great to get a chance to experience his deep and soulful acting on the big screen as audiences did when the film was released. The same cinema is going to show Lost horizon in the next couple of months which will be great to see on a cinema screen. How extraordinarily unique he was and what a brilliant cinema actor. He could project his thoughts and feelings so well through subtle expressions.Irreplaceable

Watching Lost Horizon last weekend so inspired me that I attempted another rapprochement with my adult children; it’s a divorce outcome because of 3000-miles-and-14-years-of separation (not my choice). The attempt was painful but hopefully good things will come from it some time. I can only pray that some day a real Shangri-La of the possible will happen. Also it was a refresher course in watching great movies; now when seeing some of the other classics I see so much that I never noticed before. Thus I have hundreds of “new” movies to watch.
