I have been going over the profound historical changes that came with World War One. Ran into Dash Hammett's work. We live in a comparatively dull time, even with a world full of terror. Thin Man film was great; full of novelty and odd bits of pretty loose cinema if you know what to look for. 1934. Today, audiences watch Shrek. No thought, no humor, no real art. I am back into black and white and a lesson in creativity from a broken generation that suffered horrendous loss and the routine of frail existence, life often cut short. They didn't complain. Built the world we inherited. I see a lot more in B&W; hear a lot more, too.

Quick question: does anyone know why William and Carole were divorced? It was hard to believe that Carole wasn't still in love with him by the time they had already been divorced and filmed My Man Godfrey. Then again, they were both very good actors, so there's no telling from the movie.// On a side note: please post pictures and film info on Life With Father. Thanks!

Believe they divorced because they had completely different lifestyles and just didn't mesh - although they certainly did remain good friends until Carole's untimely death in 1942.

I just picked up two of his movies for $1. These were the first movies I've ever seen of his. He has great charisma and was very attractive. It was disappointing to find out that he wasn't a very great family man (he hesitated in marrying Jane over the issue that she wanted children and he didn't). May he rest in peace.
